Charlotte Blake Alston: Master Storyteller, Narrator, & Librettist
Teachers and administrators, representing artsBASICS schools were treated to a workshop by Charlotte Blake Alston on February 20th at the Davenport Junior Theatre, sponsored by Quad City Arts Visiting Artists’ Series. Stimulating ideas for writing and increasing appreciation for oral telling and strategies for teaching students in their storytelling experiences were modeled as a readily accessible vehicle for classroom teachers. Participants were able to try their hand at storytelling and explore some of the practical ways teachers can make use of storytelling in the classroom.
Charlotte Blake Alston has performed in venues throughout North American and abroad. Venues have included the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Smithsonian Institution, the Kimmel Center, the Women of the World Festival in Cape Town, South Africa, prisons, detention centers and a refugee camp in northern Senegal.
