A huge thanks to Juan Valtierra and Destiny Dixon for providing entertainment for our fundraiser! Juan Valtierra, a community leader, youth mentor, artist, and dance instructor, leads the Hip Hop dance troupe known as Re-FL3X. Juan has taught workshops at the Creative Arts Academy and currently teaches dance at the Quad City Motion Dance Company. Destiny is a Creative Arts Academy student and winner of the Creative Arts Academy’s Applause for a Cause Talent Show. Destiny and Juan put on a mesmerizing show that demonstrated their hard work and amazing talent!
artsBASICS would like to thank Miss Iowa 2019 Emily Tinsman very much for all of the time and dedication she’s given to Arts Education. She has been traveling the state of Iowa to spread the word about the importance of this cause. She even lobbied Governor Kim Reynolds to have a day in November declared Arts in Education Day as well as Bettendorf & Davenport mayors to do the same in the next few weeks. It is an honor to have Emily as an advocate of artsBASICS and of all of the Davenport Community School District. As a thank you for all of the awareness Emily has brought to arts education, we’d like to announce the Miss Iowa 2019 Emily Tinsman Scholarship Fund. Traditionally, we have offered $1,000 in scholarships to our 6 schools and we will be giving an additional $1,000 in Emily’s name. Thank you, Emily for all you’ve done and all we know you will continue to do.
Thank you to all of the artists that donated their pieces to benefit artsBASICS! The artwork was stunning and the live auction aided in providing artsBASICS with the much needed funds to continue our mission to increase authentic arts education experiences for all students in Davenport Community School District’s artsBASICS schools.
