September 9, 2014 – Rock Island, Illinois – Quad City Arts Annual Meeting

Joel and Diane Franken are recognized as Arts Supporters (Individuals): an individual who is a role model for long-term and exemplary support of the Quad Cities arts and culture community because of his or her significant contributions of time, expertise, dedication, and/or financial resources.

In her nomination, Connie Bracey writes “Not only have Diane and Joel Franken had successful careers as artists, art educators, and district coordinators of art departments in other areas of the country, they continue to be responsible for major positive impacts on the arts in the Quad Cities.”

Their most recent project, the Creative Arts Academy of the Quad Cities opened this fall. “They have both worked tirelessly forming and leading several committees including educators, arts organization partners and community businesses to make the academy an exciting reality for Davenport Schools.”

Although their focus is on arts education, the Frankens actively support arts organizations and activities throughout the community. They are regulars at exhibits, receptions, lectures, and performances. They live their lives as arts participants, promoters, and activists, and they envision this life for the students and artists for whom they work so diligently.
