A mosaic mural at Jackson Elementary was dedicated Thursday May 12th during the ice-cream social and yearbook event. Mrs. Hyslop, music teacher wrote a sunflower song for kindergartners to sing at the social. Fifth grade students read the book the Sunflower House by Eve Bunting from Treasures language arts curriculum when they were in kindergarten. This year they revisited the story and drew their ideas for a four foot circular mosaic mural for the Jackson library. Kindergartners are currently reading The Sunflower House and will plant a sunflower garden with the help of 5th grade students.

Jackson is an artsBASICS school; this lesson integrates: science, language arts, music and visual art . Students added mosaic pieces to sunflowers, adhered marbles to frame, applied grout, cleaned grout on all parts of mosaic. David Houk drew the children in the mural and painted detail. District carpenter Keith Lehman cut all wood pieces and installed the mosaic. Special thanks to Stacey Houk, visual arts teacher, and her colleagues at Jackson Elementary School for working as a team. Thanks to 5th grade students for creating this mural and kindergartners for their music performance. Thank you Mrs. Bechen for your support of the arts.

PTA graciously supported and funded this mural, thank you PTA!
